Invitation - A Christmas Poem

Invitation

The crunching of crystals
underfoot in the night,
bells to hang,
and candles to light.

Ten thousand cards to copy out
before the season even starts;
so this is where we mass produce
the muses of our hearts.

Each store has gifts
of every sort of twinkle,
wrapped for show
and for curious hands to crinkle.

Not enough time with just family gifts
to make and find;
there are also neighbours and friends
to keep in mind.

One party (or two)
to attend every week,
baking when time allows
with delightful samples to eat.

Beckoning trees and festivities
on every street, in every store,
but what about that Child;
the one that this is all for?

It is a remembrance
of His birth;
why is that
so unclear?

A choir of Angels
did herald the gift of love,
on that blessed night
the Lamb of God did appear.

I think it's time
to invite Jesus
for Christmas
this year.
